Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services’ Food for Seniors provides healthy, nutritious food to seniors residing in Sacramento County. Seniors face a number of unique financial, medical and mobility challenges that put them at a greater risk for food insecurity. Many of these individuals are forced to choose between paying for groceries and buying other necessities, including medication.

As the population of individuals over age 60 grows, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services continues to develop innovative ideas and projects to get food to seniors in need.

One component of Food for Seniors is the federal government’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which provides seniors access to food at senior housing complexes, community centers and local food pantries. Seniors can supplement their monthly food budget with basic stables, which allows them to purchase other essentials.
