What’s your favorite thing about working at SFBFS?
The people. Whether it is a coworker, volunteer, client, Partner Agency or donor, I love working with the people who are all-in for Sacramento with Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS). It feels amazing to come to work every day and be surrounded by such a positive and motivated team to fight hunger in Sacramento.
What does a typical workday at SFBFS look like for you?
There is no typical day for me as the Food Access Program Coordinator. I usually split my time between office work and field work. My favorite days are days where I can be out in the community supporting the direct distributions for Food for Seniors. The direct distributions are a chance for us to distribute 30 pounds of free supplemental groceries to eligible seniors and a chance for us to grow community and check in our program participants.
What inspires you in supporting the SFBFS mission and culture?
When I am at the direct distributions for Food for Seniors, it is evident that we still have a long way to go to address food insecurity in Sacramento County. I am committed to being here every step of the way while we find new ways to address hunger head-on. Our Partner Agencies and clients inspire to show up every day and live out the SFBFS mission.
What is your favorite pastime?
My favorite pastime is being crafty. I love knitting, making cards and using old bicycle tubes to make earrings.
What is your favorite fruit or veggie and why?
My favorite veggie and fruit depend on the season and the dish. I love all the different flavors and textures you can find in produce, so it is impossible to choose just one. Today in my lunch I am most excited for some crisp crunchy cucumbers from my garden and fresh juicy strawberries.
