What’s your favorite thing about working at SFBFS?
My favorite part of working at SFBFS is being surrounded by staff and volunteers who genuinely want to help those in need in our community, then seeing those we help thrive in their own lives. It pushes me to be better and more giving in my own personal life. SFBFS is truly a judgment-free zone, and no matter what you are going through in your life, you are welcome here with open arms.
What does a typical workday at SFBFS look like for you?
It really depends, sometimes I‘m asked to design a flyer or Web graphic on the fly. in the middle of each month, I compile print order requests (business cards, badges for new staff, marketing materials I designed and miscellaneous items), submit them to an outside print shop, then proof and prepare for staff by the end of the month. I work with program managers to figure out how we can visually reach target audience. For example, I designed CalFresh flyers to encourage families to apply and receive assistance. I also design materials for big events such as our Turkey Drive and Run to Feed the Hungry. Oh! I also have a bit of a photography background, so I take photos at SFBFS’ events, Adult Education classes, distributions, random parts of both campuses, etc. to archive and use for future marketing material materials (print and digital).
What inspires you in supporting the SFBFS mission and culture?
I’m inspired knowing that SFBFS offers more than just food. We also provide the tools individuals need to get their lives back on track, whether you have been unemployed and need career assistance, are a refugee acclimating to life in the U.S. or a single mom in need of assistance. We not only have all these resources available but we are your biggest supporters, cheering you every step of the way to shape a better tomorrow!
What is your favorite pastime?
Spending time with my husband, Cecilio. We are big foodies so we like checking out different restaurants and we always have our two dogs, Aristotle and Liara by our sides - we especially love taking them on long walks and hikes when the weather gets warm. We also like to travel: we have been to NYC (where my husband proposed in 2015) and Playa del Carmen (for our honeymoon). Let’s not forget our endless trips to SF and LA too! We are going to London and Paris later this year for my birthday. I’m already dreaming of our next destinations, Tokyo, New Orleans and Italy are on our radar!
What is your favorite fruit or veggie and why?
Pumpkins! My birthday is on National Pumpkin Day, October 26, and I just love how versatile it is. I love pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup and I even made a pumpkin risotto from a Pinterest recipe. Fall is my favorite season and I associate pumpkins with the upcoming holidays and the comforts that come along with them on a chilly day.
