Come behind the scenes and meet the people who make the organization run! Meet Kelsey Long, SFBFS’ Development Associate.
1. What’s your favorite thing about working at SFBFS?
I am proud to be a part of addressing food insecurity in Sacramento County. With plenty of food available in the Central Valley, I see food insecurity as a solvable problem. My favorite thing about being at SFBFS is working towards a Sacramento where everyone has access to the food they need.
2. What does a typical workday at SFBFS look like for you?
I work with donors and community partners who are passionate about feeding Sacramento. I also lead a variety of events, like Hoppy Hour in the Garden, to welcome supporters into our space and share about the work SFBFS does in the community. As a native Sacramentan I’m especially glad to work on the Run to Feed the Hungry committee!
3. What inspires you in supporting the SFBFS mission and culture?
My vegetable garden teaches me so much about abundance; a tiny seed offers SO much food! I am inspired to support our mission knowing we live in one of the greatest places in the world to grow food and trusting our community is capable of ending food insecurity.
4. What is your favorite pastime?
I love growing food, keeping bees and spending time with my family – especially my dog Penny Long.
5. What is your favorite fruit or veggie and why?
Nothing is better than eating a tomato off the vine when it’s still warm from the sun.
