SFBFS Staff Spotlight - Al Garcia

Come behind the scenes and meet the people who make the organization run! September's featured staff member is Al Garcia, Facilities & Equipment Manager.

1. What’s your favorite thing about working at SFBFS?

By far the Turkey Distribution. I have been fortunate enough to work at the exit gate each year, so I am one of the last people our community sees on the way out telling them Happy Thanksgiving! I can’t begin to express the overflowing emotion and joy I feel when our friends have their Thanksgiving Dinner in hand with a smile on their face. What a Blessing!

2. What does a typical workday at SFBFS look like for you?

Trust me, there is nothing typical about a day in Facilities. It can start simple with repairing one piece of equipment or be the perfect storm of several pieces of equipment down. Occasionally we have facility damage severe enough that we can’t secure the building, the refrigeration is off-line and the roof is leaking simultaneously. Of course I always hope I don’t have to respond to alarm calls in the middle of the night!

3. What inspires you in supporting the SFBFS mission and culture?

It’s a calling for me. Anyone who has visited my office will see “A generous person will be blessed for he gives his food to the those in need” Proverbs 22:9, written on my whiteboard. It is inspiring and aligned with what we set out to do every day.

4. What is your favorite pastime?

I love camping and fishing with the wife and children, but I dislike packing and unpacking for the trip. To be completely honest, I love spending time with family if it doesn’t conflict with the game –just kidding!

5. What is your favorite fruit or veggie and why?

Ripe pears from Courtland. Something about the soft and sweet texture of a juicy pear is second to none.
