Up front with Metallica, where music and service meet.

Metallica: Legendary. Epic. Impactful.

My anticipation and excitement grew with each passing minute after learning I would have the once in a lifetime opportunity to attend Metallica’s WorldWired tour AND meet the legends in person as a representative of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS)!

I was ecstatic the whole night and had a smile beaming from ear to ear. Two passions of mine, enjoying live music and serving our community, were colliding in a miraculous way! Music and service were a part of everyday life in my household growing up. My parents were career social service employees and we enjoyed music across many genres including rock classics like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

I grew up in the 1980s and 90s listening to Metallica on local radio stations like 98 Rock and watching their music videos on MTV. Now releasing their 10th album and performing for almost 4 decades, Metallica has reached the status of rock legends connecting generations of music lovers and fans in their Metallica family. Beyond sharing their music with fans worldwide, Metallica also connects directly with each community by turning right back around and donating a portion of their concert proceeds to local agencies where they perform. My appreciation and admiration for the band deepened as I learned about Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, which is partnering with local food banks in each city of the tour and invited SFBFS to send representatives to receive a check for a $10,000 donation at their stop in Sacramento.

James, Lars, Robbie and Kirk of Metallica kindly took a few moments to chat with us about the reach of SFBFS’ work in the Sacramento region with a few thoughtful questions and then posed with us and their generous check. We were welcomed to stay for the concert and it was a dream come true for me! The first time I met rock legends I was able to shake their hands, thank them for their awesome musical contributions and their impactful donation that translates to serving 40,000 meals to fight against hunger in Sacramento.

I enjoyed the atmosphere in the Golden 1 Center as I joined the floor audience and watched fans continuously stream to fill every space. It warmed my heart to enjoy the live show surrounded by the Metallica family and to know that, through ticket purchases, all were also supporting Metallica’s efforts to create sustainable communities and fight hunger through All Within My Hands Foundation’s donation to SFBFS. It was an epic night for me, meeting these musical legends as their tour stopped in my hometown, seeing them perform live the songs I’ve loved for decades and all while representing SFBFS, an organization I’m grateful to have worked with for over 12 years serving our Sacramento community.
