Group Volunteering

There's no better way to build up your group's team spirit and camaraderie then through volunteering. We enjoy inviting corporate, school, youth, church and other types of groups down to share in the volunteer experience here at SFBFS!

We can accommodate groups of 10-15 volunteers at once, but are happy to accommodate smaller or larger groups if necessary.

Volunteer opportunities are typically available on the following days/times:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9am-2pm at Oak Park facility
  • Wednesdays between 4-7pm at Oak Park facility
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4-7:15pm and Wednesdays from 10am-1:15pm at food distributions (offsite)
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am-3pm at our South Sacramento warehouse
  • Tuesdays-Fridays at the Saca Community Learning Center

Youth or school groups may volunteer for 2 to 3 hour shifts.

At our Oak Park facility, groups are most often divided into smaller teams and placed in the distribution programs (Food, Clothing, Parent Education and warehouse) because individuals can begin volunteering immediately and no specialized training is required.

At the Saca Community Learning Center in North Sacramento, groups assist in the Parent Education program and the warehouse to sort donations, stock the programs and assist clients.

At our Food distributions, volunteers provide emergency groceries and nutrition education to families in need. These are farmers' market style distributions that take place at offsite locations (church, school or community center parking lots) in North Sacramento and Oak Park.

At our offsite warehouse in South Sacramento, groups bag grocery items for the Food program and/or sort and bag clothing items.
