Youth Academy

Youth Academy

Partnerships with REI allow children in to experience trips to learn about the environment, including this outing to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Youth Education

Youth Education is a education-based program that provides year-round assistance to children 1-18 years of age. Children ages 1-5 participate in the Playcare Academy. Volunteers prepare toddlers and preschool children for pre-school and kindergarten and encourage parental involvement in their child's early education through a co-operative system. Children 6-18 participate in the After School Academy where volunteers offer academic support through independent study, one-one tutoring and small group support, enrichment activities such as art, gardening and cooking, college preparation, community service and designing and creating with technology in our Computer Clubhouse. Staff and volunteers plan activities, games, field trips and exposure to as many new experiences and opportunities as possible.

Enrollment in this program is by referral only. All children and parents must attend an orientation and agree to a commitment to the program before attending. There are no drop-off childcare services and no drop-in tutoring services.

The minimum age to volunteer for Youth Academy is 18 years old and volunteers must pass a background check prior to volunteering. High school students ages 16-17, who are interested in volunteering with preschool and early elementary aged students as an after school reading and homework mentor,  must provide letters of recommendation from school staff or teachers as part of their background check.

ELIGIBILITY
Children ages 1-5 of parents who are enrolled in Adult Education or Parent Education programs are eligable to participate in the Playcare Academy. A referral from the Parent Education or Adult Education programs and orientation are required. For the After School Academy there are currently no openings for this program. Please check back during summer 2012 for enrollment information. A waiting list is not maintained for this program
