Parent EducationIn November 2011 Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) sunset its former Mother-Baby program to make way for a new more inclusive program. The new Parent Education program, launched January 2012, is designed to engage expectant families, mothers, fathers, grandparents or guardians with children 0 – 5 years in connecting with their children in an empathetic manner. We offer relevant courses addressing family and life issues that parents are facing today. Our goal is to support mothers and fathers in raising their children to the best of their ability by providing resources, skills and activities that will unity their families through love, compassion, structure, mutual understanding and fun. Services offered through the Parent Education program include family and life courses and workshops, access to our Parent Resource Center, mentorship, incentives and special events. Classes include topics such as nurturing parenting, positive discipline techniques, budgeting, health, nutrition, stress management, school readiness, mother support group, father involvement groups, parent & child play groups and more. Our Parent Resource Center provides mother, fathers and caregivers access to various parenting and educational books, videos and toys for children along with hundreds of local community resources. Mentorship, incentives and special events are available to all participants. By participating in Parent Education classes mothers and fathers earn credits based their attendance. These credits can then be exchanged for infant and toddler supplies such as diapers, formula baby food, clothing, accessories, toys and other children's items. The more you participate the more you earn. (Classes are also available to families with school-aged children).
