Host a Donation Drive
You can support Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services by hosting a donation drive. All types of items are in great need year-round.
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services can provide you with collection barrels as well as delivery and pick up service for donation drives over 100 pounds.
Each of our 55 gallon durable blue plastic barrels are 38” tall and 24” diameter, labeled with specific drive posters, take up about as much room as two people standing together and can hold up to 300 pounds of canned goods. We welcome the personalization of the barrels through non-permanent decorations. We also have Lucite collection boxes for monetary contributions.

We have nine different programs and services, so our needs run the gamut from baby items to clothing and food. Several wish lists are available to help you focus your drive. A variety of wish lists, organized by program, are listed below.
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services can deliver all of your containers to one location, or to various sites of your choice. We typically deliver/pick up collection containers weekdays during our normal business hours (7:30 am to 4:00 pm), however other times may be accommodated. Please note that pickup and delivery service is limited during the holiday season.
Some of our supporters have drives as short as one day or even a few hours for special events. Some choose a limited duration to host collection containers, such as two weeks or a couple months. Still others maintain one barrel or cash box at their location on an ongoing basis. Also, there’s no need to let containers overflow while waiting for a pick up. We can swap out full barrels or cash boxes for empty containers anytime during your drive.
To request donation containers, please fill out and return the Donation Drive Request Form. Someone from our office will contact you within three business days of receiving your form to coordinate the delivery and pick up of your donation containers. If you have a wagon, truck or SUV, you may be able to pick-up your container(s) from our Guest Services department. Please contact Tarah Frost, Spirit of Giving Coordinator, at tfrost@sacramentofoodbank.org if you have questions, concerns or need additional assistance with your drive.
Spirit of Giving results
Thank you to all of the generous companies, organizations and individuals who participated in our 2009 Holiday Spirit of Giving Food Drive! This annual effort plays a vital role in our ability to provide emergency groceries and gifts to families in need throughout the holidays and into the new year. The drive ran from late October through January and included 360 participating locations. As a result of the dedication and enthusiasm of drive participants, we collected over $7,970, 187,000 pounds of food, dozens of stuffed animals and even more toys for local families in need!
2009 Holiday Spirit of Giving participants competed for a title in one or more of three categories: Most Pounds Collected, Most Funds Raised and Best Decorated Collection Container. Please join us in congratulating the winners for this year’s competition. Winners will receive a plaque or trophy to display in their office throughout the following year.
