Donor Spotlight

Donors come in a variety of forms and make work at SFBFS possible. From students to seniors to companies with a big heart, we encourage you to check out one of SFBFS’ featured donors every month.

Race for the Rock winners
Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services hosted the first annual Race for the Rock this June. The text-message based scavenger hunt had almost 1,000 participants, all searching through Downtown Sacramento for a hidden Hearts on Fire ring worth $25,000. The

diamond ring donated by Rogers Jewelry Co. was found by Sacramento natives Andrea Stirling and AJ Elftmann in just under two hours.

Andrea and AJ heard about the event because of their participation in Run to Feed the Hungry. When the couple was asked what it felt like to win, Andrea exclaimed “SHOCKING! I don’t think I stopped shaking until the next day!” The win was especially meaningful as AJ just celebrated his two and a half year mark of remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma in April.

As if that all wasn’t wonderful enough, a few weeks after winning Race for the Rock, the couple made the decision to donate the diamond ring to SFBFS to be used for another fundraiser to help families in need. “The ring has just been sitting in its box and donating it the best thing to do. I know the money raised from an event around this right could help provide food, clothing and education for families in need right now,” says Andrea.

SFBFS is now hosting a raffle for the ring – Raffle for the Rock. Raffle for the Rock tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the following locations. You must be 18 years old to participate and there is no limit to the number of tickets you may purchase. The Raffle for the Rock drawing will be held on January 4, 2010 and will include other wonderful prizes from Rogers Jewelry Co. as well.
